Almost 90 companies from the Baix Llobregat coast have joined the SICTED quality system.
Training sessions began in October
The Baix Llobregat Tourist Board, aware that quality is one of the keys to obtaining success in tourist development and tackling the future of the region's tourist sector with firmer foundations, has set itself the target of introducing the culture of quality into the region.
The SICTED (Integral System for Quality Tourism in Destinations) is a system promoted by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade, and the Spanish Federation of Towns and Provinces, with the co-operation of the Provincial Council and the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce at provincial level.
It is a quality model which aims to improve the overall quality of the subsectors involved in the tourist industry of a destination, including accommodation, restaurants, shops, beaches, tourist offices, travel agencies, transport, natural areas, etc.).
In the first phase, the Baix Llobregat region will implement the system in the towns on the coast – in the towns of Castelldefels, Gavà, Viladecans and El Prat de Llobregat.
At the end of the registration period, an almost total of ninety companies and organisations from various subsectors wishing to apply this quality system had joined. Most of the companies who have undertaken to participate in the project have found the SICTED to be an initial approach and commitment to quality.
All the participating companies were called to implement the first training initiatives in October. The implementation process will end in June 2008, when the official badges and diplomas will be awarded to the companies and organisations that have successfully passed the appropriate assessments. Total commitment by the companies throughout the entire implementation process is essential in obtaining the SICTED quality seal.
This initiative, which aims to reinforce the region's business fabric, is being promoted by the Baix Llobregat Tourist Board.
