Torre del Rellotge

Share:

It is one of the most significant and representative elements of the municipality, classified as a Cultural Asset of National Interest. It has the characteristics of a defense tower and, in medieval times, it had been linked to a castle-type construction. It is located in Plaça Nova, in the old town, next to the parish church. Its current appearance and its height are the result of a reconstruction from the beginning of the 16th century. The plan is square and the walls slope in the shape of a truncated pyramid, very apparent at the base and almost imperceptible in height. At the top it is crowned by a low octagonal body with a wrought iron element that houses the two bells of the municipal clock. It housed the Olesa prison from the 18th century to the beginning of the 20th century. Despite being now the municipal clock tower, it is mistaken for the bell tower of the church, which was destroyed during the Spanish Civil War.
